Lost Petfinders Successes

Sox the staffy went missing in Glenside in mid March. Lost Petfinders started the Pet Network in the area and received a response from a woman that she had heard a rumour there was a dog in the Pineview Retirement Village. Following up this lead, the home was then faxed with a photo of the dog. That same afternoon, the manager of the home contacted Lost Petfinders affirming that they indeed had Sox in their village. Sox was returned to her ecstatic owner 4 days after she went missing.

We searched all the parks in the area and then started looking through the grounds of the TAFE, Logan Hospital, Meadowbrook Industrial estate and the Loganlea Train station. During our drive through the Logan Hospital grounds we were advised that Jordi had been sighted and that some of the staff had actually provided water for him, we were then advised that Hospital Security had sighted Jordi also during this time.
We searched and searched for hours and then again on the Sunday thinking Jordi would still be in the vicinity as he is an old dog with failing hind legs but to no avail.
I then contacted The Lost Petfinders after being advised by the Animal Emergency Hospital and the Albert Animal Hospital suggesting that you may be able to provide some service.
I contacted The Lost Petfinders on the Monday. They advised that they could list Jordi on their site and offered a service whereby they would contact households in the direct vicinity where Jordi had been lost. This was a voice recorded message sent to 440 households via the telephone (Pet Network). My husband & I thought this service was a fantastic idea. During this time we contacted the RSPCA, Vets, visited the pound everyday, drove through the area again and placed signs throughout the estate. Nothing.
Wednesday morning I received a call from Lost Petfinders advising me that she had just received a message. They suggested that it was a bit unusual but that I should listen to the message. The message was from a gentleman suggesting that he had seen the dog board the train (yes the train) at Loganlea station and that the train was heading towards Beenleigh. By this time I was laughing with disbelief, I could not believe that a dog would get on a train. LPF suggested that I ring the Station Master, so I thought I would contact QLD Rail - I am sure they thought I was joking - anyway they suggested that they would contact the pound if they found a dog on the train.
Taking a punt I contacted the nearest pound to the Beenleigh Rail Station which was Stapylton Animal Refuge.
This is the good part - we found Jordi - apparently the refuge had received a call to collect a dog from the Beenleigh Rail Station on Saturday afternoon.
Jordi, it would appear, has walked down the road, hopped on the train at Loganlea and been found on the train at Beenleigh.
Jordi is coming home this afternoon looking good but a little hoarse from barking - I can only presume from missing his family as much as we dearly missed him.
We thought your service was a great idea from the start but this has only made our experience with your service "truly amazing". I cannot express this into words. Thank you Lost Petfinders!

Jaspa came running out from a construction site across the road... he was
very skinny but fine. Must've been trapped. Fantastic to have him home, and
thank you for your help.

Click to view larger image Message: TO ALL THE ANIMAL LOVERS OUT THERE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR PETS....DON'T GIVE UP, YOUR ANIMAL IS SMARTER THAN YOU THINK!
Turns out my dear cat Timone decided he would try to find his way back to our old house where he has lived all his life, and sure enough he did....all the way back to Forest Lake(Qld)....it took him just under 6 weeks to travel the distance of 40-50kms from where we moved to!
I owe a great deal of gratitude to a couple who were driving along the main road in Forest Lake who came across him, stopped to pick him up and took him to a 24hr vet clinic where they took such good care of him for a week before I found him there. I had listed him on numerous pet sites but I found him listed on RSPCA Lost & Found. It amazes me still that they picked him up as I would of thought he was just roaming and lived nearby!
Although I had been reading messages people have written about their cat returning I tried to remain hopeful but after almost 6 weeks I started to prepare myself that I probably won't see him again, but how wrong was I. I now finally have him home again where he belongs and he is really happy here...mind you he won't be seeing the light of day for a very long time!

Click to view larger image I found my beautiful cat Mischa!

It took 3 weeks of just persevering and not giving up even though after 2 weeks I started to feel really negative and too upset to keep myself going. For 1 week she was lurking around a street that had a park across the road. I suspect that was because she would be able to catch some prey for food easily.
We had used the message service of the Lost Petfinders and recieved 2 messages letting us know she was seen off and on in the vicinity of the above area. Though by the time I had gone to look for her continuously after those phone calls we all assumed she had moved on. So from being in an elated state of mind I would go to being really depressed again-seriously.
I had started printing flyers each day probably 150p/d and handed them out to every letter box
from the streets where she was last seen and moving in a forwards direction. I would even drop flyers into Australia Post Authorised Mail Only boxes - I did not care.
You would be really suprised in how many people I spoke to who actually were pet lovers themselves and showed compassion and stated they would keep a look out. If I saw people walking down the street , coming home from work , watering gardens etc I would ask them if they had seen Mischa and, if not, could I give them a flyer. I left no stone unturned.
If you really love your pet and can do all the above things to find your lost baby something has to give. It's true I soon had half of Klemzig keeping an eye out for her.
It can get quite expensive laying out the money for all the printing, scanning, messaging, ads in the papers and all the time and effort you put in is draining. Don't forget to put A4 size flyers at bus stops as with every device I used to find Mischa, I would gain some knowledge of her whereabouts.
Though I can honestly say it really can be all worth it. Friends would help me look some mornings, nights and evenings which was really appreciated.
After a few days I started receiving phone calls in scatters. Other days I would not get a single call and that would put me in a depressed mood again. So it started feeling like I was trying to find a needle in a haystack. I would come down in my car sometimes 10minutes after she had been sighted to no avail. Not once did I see her in weeks, though it just gave me more hope and willingness to look when people would call me and tell me they have seen her. I even put her in the advertiser from which I had my initial call letting me know her wherabouts.
The 11th of March was Saturday I received a call from a lady about 4pm stating she had Mischa right there and then sleeping in the bushes in her backyard. I grabbed her food and took off in my car immediately. I am very grateful to her as she did not go outside the back at all and accidently disturb her as she would definitely run off as I had already noticed people telling me. As I went from the side of the house towards the back slowly I heard her bell and started calling her name as it looked as though she heard someone coming and was about to take off again. I came around the corner and saw my very skinny Mischa running towards me and scoffing the meat as she had not eaten properly in weeks.
I was ecstatic, as you could imagine! I guess what I would finally like to say is that if you love them enough to not give up, do all you can like I did - it wasn't the most enjoyable thing I've had to keep persevering with, especially asking every person in the area I came in contact with - I did feel a little silly at times - though who cares!
All these devices in finding a pet CAN help don't be easily discouraged as we can all get. If they have run away don't automatically think they will come back as mine didn't - you have to find them.
